Angels

The last little while has been kind of hard on me--and I'm not entirely sure why I've been feeling like this. It's been hard on me that so many of the important people in my life have hooked up with someone, or even taken on a new best friend. Perhaps I've been feeling left out, or the third wheel.

You may think it's pretty dumb of me to be acting like that. And most of the time I agree. But, there are those few moments when I just feel like the loser. Like something must be wrong with me if everyone else can find a new companion (or maintain their companionships).

Then there are the times I "get a grip," and remember that there really isn't anything wrong with me. I'm pretty darn okay. I try to treat guys as I would have them treat me. I have been trying to make myself available. I am trying to be the type of person I would like to attract. In short, I'm doing all those things that people would give me as advice.

So, the title of this entry is "Angels." There are two specifically right now that I want to tell you about. The first is an acquaintance from my profession and the other is a friend from when I was a kid.

The work Angel was last Thursday. I went over to the USOE to get trained on some civil rights stuff. We finished the training about ten minutes before I had to leave. So, he just talked to me for a while. He asked the inevitable, "So, if you don't mind me asking, why aren't you married?" I love that question. It's one of my favorites in the world. It brings such joy and happiness to my heart. Not.

Any way, I told him that I don't really date much. And then he just told me to be patient (which I struggle with)--but he was so kind about it all. He just really talked to me about my worth and about how I shouldn't settle. Like I said, I don't really know him that well, but the things he said were so on point and so tender...I know that the Spirit works with him. And I know that he is one of Heavenly Father's angels. And, I know everything he said to me was true and important.

The other Angel was just last night. When my parents went back to school in Cedar City when we were just kids, my dad became best friends with this man named Hal. Hal had a rough, rough life. Any way, things are good for Hal now. In fact, he recently got awarded the Utah Teacher of the Year. He's truly an angel for not just me--but for so many kids that he works with.

So, he called me last night to thank me for a silly little post I put on the internet about him an a Utah Teacher of the Year article. Of course the conversation turned to marriage--and I gave my all-too typical snarky remark that I'm not getting married. Like the Thursday Angel, Hal was just so tender with me and said some things that really touched me. He just made me feel Heavenly Father really is watching out for me (which I never doubt, but forget to be grateful for).

It's nice to know that not only do I have amazing friends and family, but I really am a special daughter of Heavenly Father. The hard part is doing what I know I need to do with the attitude that I know I need to have. Don't worry--I'm working on it.

And, honestly--I want you to know that life is SOOOOOO good for me right now. And I recognize that. Don't think that I'm in a depression or anything. It's just wonderful to know that Heavenly Father, with all the other things He is blessing me with, is also sending me Angels to wrap His love around me.

ICE - In Case of Emergency

ICE - In Case of Emergency

We all carry our mobile phones with names and numbers stored in its memory but nobody, other than ourselves, knows which of these numbers belong to our closest family or friends. If we were to be involved in an accident or were taken ill, the people attending us would have our mobile phone but wouldn't know who to call. Yes, there are hundreds of numbers stored but which one is the contact person in case of an emergency? Hence this "ICE" (In Case of Emergency) Campaign.

The concept of "ICE" is catching on quickly. It is a method of contact during emergency situations. As cell phones are carried by the majority of the population, all you need to do is store the number of a contact person or persons who should be contacted during emergency under the name "ICE" ( In Case Of Emergency).

The idea was thought up by a paramedic who found that when he went to the scenes of accidents, there were always mobile phones with patients, but they didn't know which number to call. He therefore thought that it would be a good idea if there was a nationally recognized name for this purpose. In an emergency situation, Emergency Service personnel and hospital Staff would be able to quickly contact the right person by simply dialing the number you have stored as "ICE." For more than one contact name simply enter ICE1, ICE2 and ICE3 etc.

A great idea that will make a difference! Let's spread the concept of ICE by storing an ICE number in our Mobile phones today! Please forward this. It won't take too many "forwards" before everybody will know about this. It really could save your life, or put a loved one's mind at rest. ICE will speak for you when you are not able to. So cut paste and forward today.

The Beginning of August

Stitches

Some of my biker friends and I went to Strawberry Reservoir on Saturday. We pulled into the parking lot of the visitor's center. (Yah, didn't know there was a visitor's center.) The back door was open toward what looked like a fish hatchery. So, we started walking on the wooden walkway (over the grass they didn't want us to ruin) toward the stream and the hatchery.

I had to make a phone call, so I stepped away from my friends and went ahead.

After I hung up, about a second later, I heard Ron yelling and all I could see was the top of his head. He was on the grass to the side of the walk way. At first, I thought he was just messing around with us, then I noticed the others ran over to him to see if they could help him. Crazy old man had been walking along, then saw a couple of "shiny" bikes driving by, and stepped off the walkway while watching them.

He managed to hurt his chest, his leg, and his eyebrow. He split his eyebrow open and was bleeding all over the wooden railing he fell on.

There was a family that lived right by the fish hatchery. Most of them were outside and saw what happened. So, the mom came over and offered assistance. We ended up taking Ron into their house and doing a patch-up job there. Ron's passenger is a nurse, so she doctored him.

Then we went back to Heber City and took him into the ER. He had to get probably 7 stitches on the inside and 5 - 7 (he didn't count) on the outside of the cut.

You can see pictures of him on my smugmug account: http://campfirebug.smugmug.com/friends.

Church

Today I get set apart as the RS secretary. I'm actually looking forward to this calling. I have never been a secretary in church.

The Bishop set me apart. The prayer he gave me was totally awesome. It was a real confirmation to me that I did choose the right ward. (After my move, I went ward shopping for about a month before finally deciding on this ward.) So far, I have really enjoyed this ward.

Yah, things are good. I'm glad. I really love the Gospel.

Mid Summer, 2007

Man, it's been a long time since I've added an entry to this.

This summer has been a lot of the same--a lot of good stuff.

Church
I went ward shopping for about a month after I moved into my new condo. I visited four wards. I think I chose the best one of the four. So far, so good. I don't have a calling yet, but that's okay. Today I had to speak in sacrament meeting. It's the first time that I've spoken in sacrament meeting since I think 1999. My topic was the atonement.

Work
There have been a few trips. This past week was a trip to Washington, DC. We had meetings on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Sunday night, after I flew in, I had dinner with one of my former roommates. She drove me into the District.

Monday night, I went to a baseball game with one of my MPA friends. It was great.

Tuesday night I had dinner with the other two former roommates. One of them drove me into the District that evening as well.

There were other friends there that I would have loved to see, but I didn't have enough time to see everyone.

Guys
None. I'm not dating anyone. I haven't been on a date for about six weeks.

I do have a motorcycle mentor, an old man friend, who keeps me company. He's awesome. He treats me great and lets me tease him.

Motorcycles
The thing that I have done the most is go riding. I have my own motorcycle club. We usually go riding on Saturday. But, it might be getting too hot to do day rides any more. Unless we go up high into the mountains. Yesterday was our longest ride yet. We started out in Sugarhouse, drove up Parley's Canyon a bit, went through East Canyon, then went over Trapper's, into Hunstville, and then all the way on the Monte Cristo route to Woodruff. From Woodruff we went to Evanston, and then we came back home. One of the guys said it was a 220 mile trip. Let's just say--TIRED.

Family
It's sure nice to be back in Utah near my family. It's nice to be near brothers, parents, and cousins. It was fun to go to the family reunion at the beginning of the month. I love my family.

Goals
One goal I had for this summer was to pay off a couple of my loans. I'm doing pretty good on that area.

Another goal I had for this summer is to actually get a tan. I haven't had a good tan since Samoa, four years ago. Considering I spend most of my days inside, I'm pretty brown this summer. I don't know if it will be one of my goals next year, I've lived a good life being my normal color.

Any way, I have pictures, but I'm not going to load them on here. If you want to see my pictures, you can see them on my SmugMug account: http://campfirebug.smugmug.com
